The Gyzi Megaron Festival, one of Santorini’s longest-running and most distinguished cultural institutions, returns this summer to celebrate forty years of artistic contribution. A festival embraced by both the local community and international audiences alike, it has established itself as a landmark cultural event for thousands of visitors from around the world. This year’s anniversary edition renews its summer appointment with the public, presenting four exceptional concerts featuring distinguished Greek and internationally acclaimed artists.

Having become an integral part of Santorini’s cultural identity, the Festival remains committed to artistic excellence, offering unique musical experiences in a venue of remarkable historical and architectural significance. As every year, all performances will take place at the historic 17th-century Gyzi Megaron Cultural Centre in Fira, from 3 to 13 August 2026, with free admission for all, thanks to the longstanding and generous support of the Catholic Diocese of Thira.

Opening Gala – A Tribute to Bel Canto

The 40th Gyzi Megaron Festival opens with a dazzling evening dedicated to the great tradition of Bel Canto.

Greek-Scottish coloratura soprano Annie Fassea and baritone Georgios Iatrou, both distinguished artists and regular collaborators of the Greek National Opera, join forces with the acclaimed pianist Dimitris Yakas in a programme featuring beloved operatic arias and duets. An evening of lyrical beauty, virtuosity and expressive artistry awaits the audience.

An exceptional evening of chamber music brings together internationally acclaimed Ukrainian violinist Dmytro Tkachenko and the distinguished Greek pianist, composer and educator Georgios-Emmanuel Lazaridis.

The Gyzi Megaron Cultural Centre welcomes internationally celebrated guitarists Susana Prieto (Spain) and Alexis Mouzourakis (Greece), the renowned Duo Melis.

Recognised as one of the world’s leading guitar duos, with numerous international awards and performances at prestigious concert venues across the globe, Duo Melis will present a programme combining breathtaking virtuosity, refined musical expression and extraordinary artistic synergy.

Closing Concert – Quattro Echo

The 40th Gyzi Megaron Festival concludes with Quattro Echo, an exciting and dynamic string quartet dedicated to exploring both the classical and contemporary repertoire.

With a particular focus on music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the ensemble showcases contemporary compositional voices and innovative performance techniques, fully exploring the expressive possibilities of the string quartet while offering audiences a compelling and inspiring musical experience.

Prepared with dedication, consistency and the utmost artistic care, this year’s programme reflects the Festival’s long-standing history and distinguished reputation. Under the artistic direction of Konstantinos Grigoriou, the Gyzi Megaron Festival continues its enduring mission: to offer the people of Santorini and visitors from around the world the opportunity to experience outstanding Greek and international musicians performing masterpieces of the world’s musical heritage within the unique historic setting of Gyzi Megaron.
