TROUBLE IN TAHITI
LEONARD BERNSTEIN
The «Medium Project» opera group is a new group of artists founded in 2013 by the director Raia Tsakiridis. Their first production, the presentation of Giancarlo Menoti’s masterpiece «The Medium’, received rave reviews from both critics and the public, with great success.
Leonard Bernstein’s «Trouble in Tahiti» presents a day in the life of a couple, somewhere in the early 1950s. The pair along with a vocal trio comment on the futility of the «American Dream». This day is divided into seven scenes that determine the action.
The drama deals with the gravity of personal relationships, the pursuit of happiness, and the inability of effective interpersonal communication, being problematic regardless of time, space, gender and origin. Relationships between genders and everyday routine are examined closely.
This opera’s music touches the classic American musical of the 1950s with direct, simple and clear writing under the sounds of jazz music.
