MODERATO CANTABILE
After a fifteen-year collaboration with the Tarkovsky Quartet and the album Il Pergolese, along with the singer Maria Pia De Vito, German cellist Anja Lechner and French pianist Francois Couturier formed and present their own duet.
The artists approach music from different angles. Lechner is a classical soloist with an interest in the art of improvisation, while Couturier, a jazz-based musician, has advanced to other areas of musical expression. In their program Moderato Cantabile they present their own interpretative versions and orchestrations of three personalities of culture and art that touched the boundaries in the history of music; G.I. Gurdjieff, Komitas Vardapet, and Federico Mompou, personalities who associate themselves with references to musical tradition, the relation between secular and religious music and their interesting references to philosophical quests.
Moderato Cantabile was recorded in November 2013 in the concert hall of Lugano’s Broadcasting Mansion for the famous ECM, produced by Manfred Eicher.
