SUMMARY:ATTIK IN PARIS ...AND OTHER STORIES WITH GIORGIS CHRISTODOULOU
DESCRIPTION:The show\, which fascinated audiences and critics\, was first presented at the Athens Festival in summer of 2016 and was sold out\, travelled all over Greece\, Barcelona\, London and the operas of Cairo and Alexandria\, Egypt. The first part of the performance shows the unknown story of Attic’s life in Paris\, from the first day he arrived as a student in Sorbonne\, but decided to quit and study music instead in the Conservatory with great teachers such as Camille Saint-Sans and Gabriel Faure\, beginning at the same time his career as a composer and songwriter. Within a few years he composed more than 300 songs that will make him one of the most successful composers of the city of light.\nThese songs are imprinted for the first time on the book “Attic in Paris”. Giorgis Christodoulou is the story teller of the unknown aspects of Attik’s life and work\, while performing with his warm voice\, accompanied by two excellent musicians\, the songs of this great composer. In the second part\, the most famous and favorite songs of the interwar period are revealed through their charming stories. \nGiorgis Christodoulou (voice)\nHaris Stavrakakis (piano-accordion)\nKostas Klagkos (double bass)

SUMMARY:MUSIC AND PANTOMIME FOR SAXOPHONE\, VOICE\, VIOLIN AND PIANO

How more so when those are combined\, as in this concert’s final work\, where music unites with pantomime! SUMMARY:ATHENS QUINTET D. DOUNIS IOANNA FORTI
DESCRIPTION:ATHENS QUINTET D. DOUNIS IOANNA FORTI \nΑn a walk take place around the world? Yes\, when music is the vehicle. And if the voice is accompanied by instruments that go beyond geographical boundaries and musical idioms\, there is no distance. The mandolin and the guitar are two such instruments that managed to overcome their origins and offer their sound almost in every form of music\, from baroque to modern writing\, from traditional song to jazz\, from East to West. In the case of the Athens Quintet D. Dounis the archetypal mandolin-guitar duo is enriched with an extra mandolin\, a mandola and a mandoloncello\, further expanding the repertoire. Among compositions familiar or less familiar\, Ioanna Forti’s voice is tied to the sound of the nightly strings in songs that make this journey unique. \nGiorgos Goumenakis (mandolin)\nMichalis Sidiropoulos (mandolin)\nGiannis Goumenakis (mandola)\nGiorgos Theodoropoulos (mandocello)\nVassiliki Leondaris (guitar)\nIoanna Forti (vocals)

SUMMARY:YOUNG MASTERS ENSEMBLE
DESCRIPTION:The Young Masters programme for talented young musicians is an initiative of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School. Fifteen participants form the Young Masters Ensemble\, a chamber orchestra that always plays without a conductor and in which the musicians take turns playing solos. The music directors are Hanns Stekel and Jakob Gisler\, who rehearse pieces that are often special arrangements with the ensemble. World premiers are also presented\, including works by Linus Köhring\, a young composer (and viola player in the ensemble) who writes pieces especially for this group.\nIn the spring of 2016 the Young Masters Ensemble went on a USA tour (Delaware\, Washington D.C.). Following the trip to Greece in the summer of 2017\, Asia will be on the concert schedule for 2018. In Austria the ensemble performs in famous concert halls (e.g. the Wiener Musikverein\, the Schubert Hall of the Konzerthaus in Vienna)\, at benefit concerts (e.g. Kiwanis\, LIONS Club) and at festivals (e.g. Kulturspitzen Aflenz). It has played for the international community at the UNO City in a ceremony of the United Nations Women’s Guild and at a Cercle Diplomatique reception for the Russian Ambassador. \n \n

SUMMARY:AENAON string quartet
DESCRIPTION:AENAON string quartet  – ATHENS STATE ORCHESTRA \nFour distinguished musicians of the Athens State Orchestra re-create through the wide repertoire written for the string quartet. Using the counterpoint writing\, they highlight pluralism\, develop the potential of each instrument\, with the ultimate goal of unity led by the vision of the composer\, as they perceive it.\nThe AENAON string quartet participates in the Gyzi Megaron Festival in breathtaking Santorini with a diverse program for all preferences. F.Schubert’s unfinished yet profoundly emotional Quartettsatz and S. Barber’s Adagio\, precede the Dodecanese Suite by Yannis Konstantinidis and the poetically romantic 2nd quartet by A.Borodin.\nAENAON String Quartet was created in 2016. Although newly established\, it has participated in educational programs of the Athens State Orchestra\, in concerts in Greece and abroad\, as well as collaborations with non-classical musicians. \n  \nGiorgos Mandilas (violin)\nVasilis Soukas (violin)\nManos Gouvelis (viola)\nAsterios Pouftis (violoncello)

SUMMARY:Greek National Radio Choir (ERT)
DESCRIPTION:Greek National Radio Choir (ERT) – From Renaissance to Gospel\nThe Greek National Radio Choir (ERT)\, in the context of their summer events\, presents a special music program in Santorini. This music wandering starts out from Italian Renaissance\, and through German Romanticism reaches the American land of Gospels and Spirituals. Motets and psalms by major representatives of the Italian and German polyphonic tradition lead to a contemporary motet by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo and to Bob Chilcott’s famous Jazz Mass.\nThe ERT Choir\, experienced in performing works by Greek composers\, will begin the second part of the concert with well-known melodies loved by the Greek audience. This musical journey will be completed with a change in rhythm\, and style\, through a selection of unique gospel and spiritual songs from the American South.

SUMMARY:Summer Festival 2017
DESCRIPTION:Gyzi Megaro Festival. An institution and attraction for visitors of this island\, which has been taking place in one of the few historical mansions of the 17th century that survived the earthquakes of 1956\, the Gyzi Megaron. This year’s programme embraces\, as always\, all kinds of music creation\, inaugurating important collaborations with two of the country’s largest cultural institutions\, the Athens State Orchestra and the National Television (ERT) Music Ensembles. At the same time\, we have the pleasure of welcoming young musicians from the most important musical educational institution in Europe\, the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. The two events that these young artists will perform at are sponsored by the Austrian Embassy in Greece and are carried out in the context of the cultural and educational collaboration that will be announced shortly. The festival also hosts outstanding artists such as Savina Yannatou\, Giorgos Andreou\, Manos Ahalinopoulos\, Haig Yazdjian\, Theodoros Kerkezos\, Christos Papageorgiou\, who will give us unique performances. We also feel priviliged to host Giorgos Christodoulou’s very successful performance\, “Attic in Paris … and other stories”\, based on Greek and French songs by Attik\, but also the Athenian Quintet D. Dounis\, which binds the sweet sound of its strings with Ioanna Forte’s voice and travels us with its familiar melodies. The curtain of this year’s Gyzi Megaron Festival will fall on Tuesday\, August 29\, with the performance of the winners in the five categories of The Muse International Youth Competition.
